Tooth Decay?

Posted on 12/19/2022 by SRD Muscle Shoals
Tooth Decay?A patient with Tooth Decay needs to be seen by our dentists as soon as possible. Tooth Decay is caused by plaque building up on the teeth which then erodes the enamel due to the acids that the plaque produces which then leads to the decay. Tooth decay can lead to many issues when it comes to a patient's mouth. It can lead to tooth loss, jawbone loss, and bad breath.

Signs to Look for With Tooth Decay

Tooth sensitivity is a common sign that you may be having some tooth decay. During or after eating hot or cold foods, you might start feeling some sensitivity in your tooth. If this is happening it could be a sign that it is time to get it check out. Due to the plaque wearing off the enamel of the tooth, this is what then exposes the dentin of the tooth. Dentin, which is hollow, is the part of the tooth that creates the feeling of sensitivity in your teeth. Enamel is what protects the dentin and provides a barrier to block anything getting to the dentin to cause any sensitivity.

Treating a Decayed Tooth

There are several ways a dentist might treat your decayed tooth. The most intensive way to treat this might be to perform a root canal to remove any of the nerve inside the tooth which will cause you pain. Once it is removed, they will cap the tooth, also known as a crown, with a material that will look and feel just like your normal teeth. Another way to treat a decayed tooth is just to simply put a cap on the tooth. The treatment that the dentist preforms all depends on what each patient's situation may call for.

If you think you might have a decayed tooth, we are always here to help you through the process. Please reach out to us for a consultation to assess your satiation.
